Pastor Ed Roebert was born in 1939. He grew up in East London where he attended Selbourne College, and gave his life wholeheartedly to the purposes of God from the age of 18 years when he was born again.

God’s call on his life came during his final year of school after which he studied at the Baptist Theological College and also completed his Theology Degree at UNISA. In 1963 Pastor Ed Roebert became the senior pastor of the Hatfield Baptist Church in South Street.

Over the next 20 years the church grew from strength to strength and in 1984 moved out of the Baptist denomination and he founded the Hatfield Christian Church – an independent charismatic church.

The unique focus of this church was the pursuit of the Holy Spirit! This church grew to over 6500 active members!

After pastoring this church for 34 years, Pastor Ed went to be with the Lord at the age of 57 at the Union Buildings in Pretoria, South Africa, while preparing to march with thousands of Christians and Christian leaders from 133 nations to demonstrate the love of God in the cause of reaching every person in the world with the good news of Jesus Christ by the year 2000. He was considered a pioneer of renewal in South Africa.
